All wood species will change color with age and exposure to sunlight, heat, and other elements - this is called " mellowing." Some species are more susceptible to mellowing than others. Cherry will significantly darken as it ages. Hard Maple will darken and slightly yellow as it ages.

Painted finishes mainly on a white or biscuit paint color, may also appear to have a flatter appearance and can also turn a bit brown or yellow with exposure to sunlight.
